The Great Freedom is an intimate Danish documentary exploring faith, solitude, and the search for meaning. Through a deeply personal lens, the film enters the secluded world of Gerleve Monastery, where silence and ritual shape daily life. Once home to over a hundred monks, only a few remain, holding onto tradition as the world moves on. As grief and existential questions unfold, the film examines whether monastic life offers true freedom—or if it is simply a fading relic of the past.
